Sierra made the "Geometry Zoo" sign
In third grade Art class, we are reinforcing geometry concepts from Math class, as well as creating collaborative artwork.  This week, each artist is collaging an animal from geometric plane shapes and  parallel, perpendicular, or intersecting lines.  Finished animals are glued on to our giant "Geometry Zoo" paper with a name made totally of letters that have lines of symmetry.  People who had extra time added a cage or habitat!

Folded Flowers

photo.JPG
To continue our paper sculpture unit in second grade (and make some cool gifts for Valentine's day), we created these tissue paper flowers.  We stacked our tissue paper squares, did the accordion fold, squeezed them in the middle like a bow tie, and twisted a pipe cleaner in the middle.  Then we gently peeled each layer up and towards the center and voila--Valentine's magic!

Snowy Scratchboard

Let it snow!  In fifth grade Art class, we learned about horizon lines and drew snowy landscapes.  After sketching, we used pointed tools to very carefully remove portions of our scratchboard, leaving snowy texture lines.

Secondary Spiral Snakes!

photo.JPG

This is more than just a tongue-twister; it's an awesome art project!  In first grade Art class, we reviewed primary and secondary colors, then filled square papers with beautiful, secondary watercolors.  When the paper was dry, we traced a spiral and cut it out to make crazy, springy snakes!
